Hole #1

The opening hole at Lake Forest Golf Course is a short par 3 with a large greenside bunker set in front of the green and beautiful Aliso Creek running down the entire left side of the hole. Along the right side of the fairway are the sweet-smelling vestiges of the orange grove that used to dominate this hidden meadowland.

Hole #2

The 100-yard second hole demands a skilled tee shot. Any ball missing short or right of the deep, narrow green will be swallowed up by the lake, but don’t go too far or you will end up in Aliso Creek.

Hole #3

The par 3 third hole’s green is book-ended by two deep bunkers. The tee shot is from a small separation among the giant, sprawling sycamores and rugged pines.

Hole #4

The fourth hole is short and simple-looking; however, in this case, appearances are deceiving. The long, narrow green slants right toward Aliso Creek. The steep bank of the creek is merely eight paces from the center of the green and wraps tightly around the back apron. Use caution when hitting for the green!

Hole #5

A tricky par 4, certainly the definitive risk/reward tee shot. It is possible to reach the green with a well-placed drive, but a miss in any direction can lead to trouble. There is a large lake along the left side of the fairway and guarding the front of the green, and another hidden lake waiting for balls that miss to the right. Finally, just a few yards beyond the green is a pair of strategically-placed bunkers.

Hole #6

Surrounded by orange trees and eucalyptus, the par 3 sixth is the shortest hole on the course. The only trouble is a large bunker protecting the front-right portion of the green, and a moderate slope between the upper and lower tiers of the putting surface.

Hole #7

The seventh hole is a 116-yard par 3, lying just past the bridge over Aliso Creek. Two bunkers guard the front of the green, and a grove of orange trees lines the right side of the fairway.

Hole #8

The 85-yard eighth hole is an easy wedge to a large yet slanted green. There are bunkers on both sides and tree trouble just a few yards beyond the green.

Hole #9

The closing hole is a difficult par 4. With Aliso Creek brimming with foliage down the entire left side of the fairway and orange trees and bunkers scattered in the right rough, the tee shot puts a premium on accuracy. Once safely on the fairway, the final approach shot is over Aliso Creek to a narrow green framed by eucalyptus.
